ALOCASIA ‘ALBATUWAN’
Alocasia alba x Alocasia ‘Sintang’
PARENTAGE: Alocasia alba x Alocasia ‘Sintang’
HYBRIDIZER: Wawan Santoso (Java, Indonesia)
The story of Alocasia ‘Albatuwan’ starts in Malaysia, at the Chong Lee Nursery where Wawan worked between 2001 and 2016.
Wawan collected a plant from Kalimantan that he called Alocasia ‘Batu’, which later turned out to be what is currently sold as Alocasia ‘Sintang’ (also sold incorrectly as Alocasa reginae) He hybridized it with Alocasia alba, and named the resulting plant ‘Albatuwan’: Alba + Batu + Wan (Wan from his name Wawan)
Since he was working in Malaysia at the time, this hybrid, along with Alocasia 'Lukiwan', which was created around the same time, are more prevalent in Malaysia, and more rarely through exporting, in Thailand and Indonesia.
