ALOCASIA MACRORRHIZOS ‘BLACK STEM’
DESCRIPTION: Alocasia macrorrhizos ‘Black Stem’ is a cultivar of Alocasia macrorrhizos known to the market as early as 2007 when LariAnn reported on her experience with the cultivar.
She describes the inflorescences as having a mostly green spathe, with the exception of the swollen area surrounding the pistillate flowers, which is purplish in color. The spadix is white in color.
While technically the cultivar name is botanically incorrect, due to the petioles showing the black coloration, rather than the stem, the name has stuck and would likely be hard to change.
