ALOCASIA MACRORRHIZOS ‘LUTEA’
DESCRIPTION: Alocasia macrorrhizos ‘Lutea’ is a variant of Alocasia macrorrhizos characterized by its pale yellow coloration that is seen in the petioles, veins, spathe, and which sometimes even shows up as yellow variegated patches on the leaves.
LariAnn Garner reports she first encountered this cultivar in the late 1980s, when Roland Wagner, a late friend of hers, brought a large stem piece back from Papua New Guinea with him on his lap in the airplane! She suspecs the presence of the cultivar in the United States is likely in part to the efforts of the late Rolan Wagner, who likely put the plant in tissue culture.
LariAnn indicates this cultivar is likely sterile as she has not observed the mature inflorescences produce any pollen
