ALOCASIA ODORA ‘BLUE’

CULTIVAR DESCRIPTION: Alocasia odora ‘Blue’ is a cultivar of Alocasia odora

LariAnn Garner describes this cultivar as originating from Yunnan, China. The plant is deemed to be at least as hardy as A. odora, but has been observed to produce smaller inflorescences.

Its name comes from the bluish color observed in the petioles and peduncles, which can sometimes also extend into the main veins of the leaf. The best color shows when the plant is grown in shade.

The leaves are thinner and more papery in feel than those of the Alocasia odora

This plant has become more widely available in the trade but is being sold as "Alocasia gigantea", which is not a valid name.

Lari Ann has succesfolly crossed this plant with the Alocasia odora green type, and reported that the leaves on the progeny are somewhat thicker.
