ALOCASIA ‘YUCATAN PRINCESS’*

UNDESCRIBED

Hybridizer Brian Williams of Brian’s Botanicals is attributed to finding this plant and introducing it into tissue culture with Agristarts circa 2011-2012.

Whether this cultivar is an undescribed species or hybrid is uncertain, but it has a few characteristics that distinguish it from Alocasia macrorrhizos ‘Plumbea’ and Alocasia ‘Serendipity’ with which it is often confused (please see below), particularly the lower number of primary veins, and the puckered leaf texture.

Historically, Alocasia ‘Yucatan Princess’ was sold as a cultivar of Alocasia sarawakensis but the two are not related and they present quite differently.

VARIEGATED FORMS: MINT

ETYMOLOGY: The origin of this cultivar’s epithet is uncertain, as the genus Alocasia is an old world one, and is not found in the Yucatan Peninsula or the Americas
