Alocasia ‘Kerchoveana’ is the same cross, or perhaps the same plant as either Alocasia ‘Luciani’ or Alocasia ‘Pucciana’ which have the same parentage and are just reverse crosses of each other. They were also introduced approximately three years earlier, in 1887

Though not confirmed by literature, this hybrid was likely named after the president of the Royal Society for Agriculture and Botany, Oswald de Kerchove de Denterghem (1844-1906), internationally renowned for his study of palms and orchids.
