ALOCASIA MACRORRHIZOS ‘PLUMBEA’
DESCRIPTION: Alocasia macrorrhizos ‘Plumbea’ is one of the oldest known cultivars of Alocasia macrorrhizos with an illustration from a German botanical journal that dates as far back as 1857. Alocasia macrorrhizos ‘Plumbea’ is characterized by green adaxials, bronze abaxials and reddish petioles.
The cultivar’s name ‘Plumbea’ originates from the color of the leaf abaxials which match that of leaded bronze (lead in Latin is plumbus)
SYNONYMS: Alocasia ‘Plumbea’, Alocasia ‘Plumbea Nigra’, Alocasia atropurpurea, Alocasia metallica (not to be confused with Alocasia cuprea which contemporaneously also carried the same latinized name in botanical journals)

An illustration of four species and cultivars that are often mislabeled with each other: Alocasia sarawakensis, Alocasia ‘Yucatan Princess’, Alocasia macrorrhizos ‘Plumbea’, and Alocasia ‘Serendipity’
