ALOCASIA ‘RODIGASIANA’
Alocasia reginae x Alocasia longiloba ‘Korthalsii’
PARENTAGE: Alocasia reginae x Alocasia longiloba ‘Korthalsii’
“ALOCASIA RODIGASIANA. — This remarkable novelty was obtained at the horticultural establishment of the Chantrier brothers, in Mortefontaine (Oise), by crossing Alocasia ‘Thibaut’ with Alocasia reginae. The plant is surprisingly vigorous; leaves measured on one-and-a-half-year-old plants gave "8o length by half a yard width”. These leaves are slightly wavy. The color of the upper leaf (sic - adaxial) is very dark metallic blue, while the veins main prominences are of a very shiny silvery white, as well as all the veins. This white color, which extends slightly over a large part of the blade, is of a beautiful effect. The underside of the leaf is d 'a beautiful purple tint. This hybrid is destined to occupy a distinguished place among the Alocasia.”
“Extremely vigorous plant. Erect petiole , very stout, cylindrical, dark olive green above with lenticels of dark shiny purple dots below, as well as on the entire underside of the leaf blade, which is 70 to 80 centimeters long and 45 to 50 wide; this blade is oval, full in the middle, hollowed out like a gutter between the veins and towards the wavy edge; the 10 main veins, on each side, are broad, projecting, rounded, of a shiny silvery green and surrounded by a zone of the same shade; the leaf tone is shiny dark green, crossed by fine pale veins; the basilar sinus is narrow, open from the petiole and slightly rounded at the top.
This very beautiful plant, remarkable for its vigor, comes from a cross between Anthurium (sic. - should say Alocasia) Thibaut and Reginae. It was dedicated to my colleague and friend Émile Rodigas, director of the zoological garden of Ghent, and is already on sale”
