ALOCASIA REGINAE ‘ELAINE‘

CULTIVAR DESCRIPTION: Alocasia reginae ‘Elaine’ is a cultivar of Alocasia reginae first introduced by Agristarts and was named after famous Florida collector Elaine Speers by David Burnett. Elaine Speers was responsible for the reintroduction of this cultivar, as well as Alocasia nebula into horticulture.

The plant known as 'Elaine' grows more slowly, and is a smaller plant overall, than the Alocasia reginae 'Miri'. This cultivar is the most wide-spread in cultivation, overtaking both the original species and the ‘Miri’ cultivar.

Alocasia reginae 'Elaine' has a lighter bluish coloration pattern on the upper sides of the leaves, and a fainter reddish coloration on the undersides, while the abaxial sides of the Alocasia reginae ‘Miri’ are quite dark red in color, and the abaxials are much darker green, with just a bluish tinge to them

The leaf upper surface is deep blue with even deeper blue zones around the primary veins. The lower surface is a deep vibrant red-purple with deeper colored primary veins and intermediate veinlets. The green petiole is flecked with purple spotting. The inflorescence is snow white with numerous purple spots over the upper spathe and tube. The peduncle is deep purple with even deeper purpleblack spots and color zones. The texture of the leaf is extremely thick.
